Final Project: Historic Boston Reference Materials

Both pictures were pulled out from Library of Congress
American Revolution occurred between 1765 and 1783. This is when the colonists composed of 13 Colonies rejected the British monarchy. On December 16th 1773, the famous Boston Team Party happened in the midst of revolution. It was an attempt to destroy entire shipment of tea sent by East India Company in defiance of Tea Act.

Boston at the time was the third largest metropolitan area on the coast of North America. During the revolution, Boston had 1,676 houses and 2,069 families. In total, 15,520 were living in Boston at the time. Although exact size in metrics is unknown, we can estimate the area by giving certain acres to each family and multiplying that by family number.

There were important structures during the revolution. First, Bunker Hill monument was made in 1775. Old North Church was also present before the revolution, possibly in 1723. Old South Meeting House was also there. There were other man-made structures back then.

One of the most significant natural landscape during the revolution was the Boston Common established in 1634.

Class 10, Facebook events as an 'opt-in' form of collaboration

I was actually very familiar with the "event" functionality in Facebook. I often used it to manage my schedule and host events for friends. Thus, once I knew which event I was supposed to sign up, this assignment was a very easy process. I first signed up to the Immersion 2015 event. Then I shared this event to each group I was signed up for. Hopefully, I get a positive response from the groups!

Class 10, Snapchat as a collaboration tool

2. Snapchat

  • Snapchat is specifically a photo messaging application that shares photos, records videos, writes a short message and can include drawings.
  • Snapchat also has a function to send small amount of money by teaming up with Sqaure Cash.
  • “My Story” and “Our Story” have been added.
  • developed by Stanford University students - Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.
  • Snapchat was the talk of the town recently after rejecting $3 billion buyout from Facebook.

  • photo messaging application
  • pictures are shown for limited amount of time (senders decide on time
  • hinders from screenshotting images
  • By sending pictures with a small text, we can send more effective messages.
  • Also in a recent snapchat update, the ability to video chat live with another person was added to the software. Previously snapchat only supported sending photographs and videos up to 10 seconds long, but now with the video chat feature snapchat can become a quick conference collaboration tool. A video chat on snapchat can be opened in only a few seconds, and closed immediately, removing any signing into skype or other video chat software, and can even be quicker than facetime on iPhones because connection can happen much faster, and the other person does not have to have an iPhone.

Class 9, Boston Tea Party Ship

Class 9: Collaborative Web Pages with Together JS

First, before I explored Together JS I met one of my team mates. I used Google Hangout to really interact with the teammate and discuss about the assignment. After taking this class, I'm using google hangout way more often than skype. I find this google network very useful. After chatting for a minute or two, I explored mozilla's togetherJS. It was a very interactive and collaborative platform, which I wasn't aware of. First, I found out there were sample applications I can experience. I soon realized that more application development will come. First one was experiencing the Grocery To Do App. I liked the idea of collaborating the applications and shopping. Then  we went on to Madlip, which I had no idea what it was about. Next, we visited drawing app, which I found most useful. Lastly, used youtube sharing application to see Gangnam Style. It was definitely an useful platform to collaborate in the Web.

Class 9: Google Docs HTML files

This is the time I opened the un-zipped file in the web. It was a very rough version of my report. However, just by the looks of it, my report looked fine.

This is me uploading the file on the file. It is currently uploading to my BC file.

This is me creating a ticket so that my class mates can access my folder.

Class 9: My Own Prezi Presentation

This is my prezi presentation of my favorite report: VR. I still find VR a fascinating technology. Virtual world is something I have dreamed of all the time. Also, it requires a careful planning to implement safety measures for social problems it may cause. Although it is a promising technology, implementation of this new discovery need plenty of planning and precaution.

Class 9: My Favorite 3 Prezi Presentations

These are three presentations that I enjoyed reading. They seem to give me new information rather than an existing information. Also, they include topics that I'm interested in: Math, Commerce, and immersive education.

Class 9: Hypertext Makeup Language (HTML)

HTML is the fundamental building block of internet. It is a link that allows the user to connect with others. It was originally tied to an older version called SGML. Now, it is independent of it. There are many versions of HTML which are Quirks Mode, HTML 2, HTML 3.2, and HTML 4.01. HTML 5 is the working progress. WHATWG and W3C are the two technology working groups aiming to build new HTML version called HTML 5.

HTML is essentially coding to connect users to the world wide web. The process of writing HTML requires constant identifiers and statements. There is also an attribute that characterizes the statement or content. HTML requires constant logical thinking to make a logical command for the computer to understand.

Of course, the logic behind HTML requires learning new rules. Logic we use everyday life is not identical to the logic used in coding. For example, logicality in ordinary life does not require absolute adherence to rules. However, in HTML, syntax and logicality require strict adherence to rule. Otherwise, you’re your command wouldn’t work.

Class 9, Immersion 2015 Outreach HW

Class 9, Deleting Colorado World

Class 9, Minecraft Building Structure

I was building a mansion throughout my class times. It was difficult to build a modern building that I would see in fancy magazines. I wanted to look like a future piece of architecture, but it was still hard to build one. I guess my problem was that I didn't have a clear picture before building the mansion.
I have so much respect for people building structures in Minecraft.

Group Dartmouth Ship

Group Dartmouth's Ship building. It was hard to make a historically accurate ship, since we only have blocks to finish the project, but it was definitely worthwhile!

Class 8, The Bitcoin and Blockchain

Bitcoin is an interesting phenomenon. It is one of the most known electronic currency. It is invented by Satoshi Nakamoto and it was released as an open source, which is peculiar considering it is a currency system that is open to anybody to duplicate. The exact identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is still nowhere to be found. Interestingly, the amount of Bitcoin is not fixed. Through a process called "mining" the amount of bitcoin circulating can expand in a limitless manner.

This is why the value of Bitcoin is always changing. To be more specific, mining is a process where users provide computing power to verify the payment and put it in a public ledger. Through this process, new Bitcoin is produced. In order to understand the mining process better, we have to define the term Blockchain.

Block chain is a public ledger that records transaction of Bitcoin. Whenever someone uses or sends the Bitcoin to others, this is recorded in the Blockchain. This block is distributed to the network of Blockchain. In fact, Bitcoin can be described as a collaborative currency system, where the each transaction block is verified by this system of blocks.
