Class 12: Google Drive Folders

This is the process of adding people who can view my Google Drive. I try to add all the classmates to see my folder. It had images related to Immersion 2015 and my reports that were relevant to the topics covered in Immersion 2015.

I couldn't find a way to share the folder through the desktop. Thus, I logged in to Google Drive through an internet to share the files.

This is the process of uploading all the files relevant to the Immersion 2015.

Class 12: What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is a very useful application made in Google. It is a cloud service that provides a storage space that one can access anywhere. You can view the Google Drive through an internet or download the drive into your computer. Currently, we have seen a huge growth in the cloud service and google is one of the big players in the game, considering the popularity of Google Services.

I personally downloaded the Google Drive to my laptop, and I’m thoroughly enjoying my experience with the Google Drive. Once it is downloaded in the desktop, the Drive updates the information once it is connected to the internet. There is no need for USBs once I have connection to the internet all the time.

Moreover, Google Drive is conveniently synced with Google doc, sheet, and many more. This ecosystem of Google Technology makes the Drive much more attractive platform. In fact, I have been using Google office applications more than the Microsoft Office. The special function to use office applications through the internet has become a very addictive feature. I’ve also experienced growth of users of Google Office applications.

The Google Drive will experience growth all around as time passes. But, there will be other cloud services that will challenge Google Drive. The problem is how to maintain its dominance in the Cloud Service Market.

Final Project: My First Old Boston Building

All these screenshots show the process I went through to build King's Chapel. It was difficult to incorporate the specific color and texture of the chapel. However, I tried to make a best representation by using the cobble stone and other materials. Again, because I didn't take care of the level terrain, I spent a lot of time making a flat terrain. Moreover, getting it to scale was very difficult also. Now that I have used the World Paint and built a building, I have firm grasp of what I'm supposed to do.

Final Project: My 4 Hours with World Painter

I thought manipulating World Painter wouldn't be a challenge. However, as I was exploring the application, I found this process very difficult. First, I only roughly imagined things I had to do to create a map. However, there were meticulous map making that I had to think about. For example, the level of terrain and level of water were things that I didn't consider. Moreover, the brush allowed me to make precise adjustments, but it was very hard to do it in laptop touch-pad. If I had a mouse, this process would have been whole lot better. For the map, I consulted all the maps our class mates posted in the google doc. It was a great reference to get an overall shape of historic Boston. Also, I used the maps to get a rough outline of the roads.

Final Project: Historic Boston Reference Materials

Both pictures were pulled out from Library of Congress
American Revolution occurred between 1765 and 1783. This is when the colonists composed of 13 Colonies rejected the British monarchy. On December 16th 1773, the famous Boston Team Party happened in the midst of revolution. It was an attempt to destroy entire shipment of tea sent by East India Company in defiance of Tea Act.

Boston at the time was the third largest metropolitan area on the coast of North America. During the revolution, Boston had 1,676 houses and 2,069 families. In total, 15,520 were living in Boston at the time. Although exact size in metrics is unknown, we can estimate the area by giving certain acres to each family and multiplying that by family number.

There were important structures during the revolution. First, Bunker Hill monument was made in 1775. Old North Church was also present before the revolution, possibly in 1723. Old South Meeting House was also there. There were other man-made structures back then.

One of the most significant natural landscape during the revolution was the Boston Common established in 1634.

Class 10, Facebook events as an 'opt-in' form of collaboration

I was actually very familiar with the "event" functionality in Facebook. I often used it to manage my schedule and host events for friends. Thus, once I knew which event I was supposed to sign up, this assignment was a very easy process. I first signed up to the Immersion 2015 event. Then I shared this event to each group I was signed up for. Hopefully, I get a positive response from the groups!

Class 10, Snapchat as a collaboration tool

2. Snapchat

  • Snapchat is specifically a photo messaging application that shares photos, records videos, writes a short message and can include drawings.
  • Snapchat also has a function to send small amount of money by teaming up with Sqaure Cash.
  • “My Story” and “Our Story” have been added.
  • developed by Stanford University students - Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.
  • Snapchat was the talk of the town recently after rejecting $3 billion buyout from Facebook.

  • photo messaging application
  • pictures are shown for limited amount of time (senders decide on time
  • hinders from screenshotting images
  • By sending pictures with a small text, we can send more effective messages.
  • Also in a recent snapchat update, the ability to video chat live with another person was added to the software. Previously snapchat only supported sending photographs and videos up to 10 seconds long, but now with the video chat feature snapchat can become a quick conference collaboration tool. A video chat on snapchat can be opened in only a few seconds, and closed immediately, removing any signing into skype or other video chat software, and can even be quicker than facetime on iPhones because connection can happen much faster, and the other person does not have to have an iPhone.

Class 10, Instagram as a collaboration tool

Class 9, Boston Tea Party Ship

Class 9: Collaborative Web Pages with Together JS

First, before I explored Together JS I met one of my team mates. I used Google Hangout to really interact with the teammate and discuss about the assignment. After taking this class, I'm using google hangout way more often than skype. I find this google network very useful. After chatting for a minute or two, I explored mozilla's togetherJS. It was a very interactive and collaborative platform, which I wasn't aware of. First, I found out there were sample applications I can experience. I soon realized that more application development will come. First one was experiencing the Grocery To Do App. I liked the idea of collaborating the applications and shopping. Then  we went on to Madlip, which I had no idea what it was about. Next, we visited drawing app, which I found most useful. Lastly, used youtube sharing application to see Gangnam Style. It was definitely an useful platform to collaborate in the Web.

Class 9: Google Docs HTML files

This is the time I opened the un-zipped file in the web. It was a very rough version of my report. However, just by the looks of it, my report looked fine.

This is me uploading the file on the file. It is currently uploading to my BC file.

This is me creating a ticket so that my class mates can access my folder.

Class 9: My Own Prezi Presentation

This is my prezi presentation of my favorite report: VR. I still find VR a fascinating technology. Virtual world is something I have dreamed of all the time. Also, it requires a careful planning to implement safety measures for social problems it may cause. Although it is a promising technology, implementation of this new discovery need plenty of planning and precaution.
